We've Transitioned to a Partner-Distribution Model
As of August 1st, we have officially ended our monthly bike giveaways. Our final public distribution was July 29th, 2026 and we are now fully committed to a new model that better serves our community and our team.
The monthly giveaways were a huge success, growing so large that the administrative workload became unsustainable for a crew our size. At July's giveaway, we sent 95 bikes back onto the street! But, we were spending more time managing lines and paperwork than actually refurbishing bikes. So, we made the call to pivot.
Moving forward, all bikes we refurbish will be distributed through community organizations and non-profits. This allows us to focus on quality craftsmanship while ensuring bikes still reach folks through trusted local groups.
Please note: There will be no giveaways in August or any future month. Do not come to the shop expecting to pick up a bike, we do not have inventory allocated for public walk-ins anymore.
FAQ: What happens to my donated bike now?
It gets the same full tune-up as always, but instead of going to a public queue, it goes straight to one of our community partners.
Can I still get a bike?
If you are an individual, the last opportunity passed on July 29th, 2026. We don't have a public referral list of partners ready just yet (we're actively recruiting them!), but we encourage you to reach out to local mutual aid groups or community centers in your neighborhood. They may soon be receiving bikes from us.
How do organizations apply to receive bikes?
Email us at operations@bcbc.bike with a quick intro about your group. You do not need to be a formal non profit, unincorporated community groups are absolutely welcome. Currently we can handle about 10 bikes per organization per year and we aim to build 30 bikes total per month, (though we'll adjust if volunteer capacity grows). We already have one org on the waitlist for 10 bikes, so we're actively building our pipeline.
What if I relied on the monthly giveaway?
We understand this is a tough shift. We are actively working to build a strong network of partner organizations. If you'd like to be notified as we onboard new partners, drop us an email and we'll keep you in the loop.
